*Art by David Drebin; “Selfie”* There is no empathy,
until you want some money.
You’re always busy
before the weather changes.
I’ve been here waiting
while you take your selfies.
You got the sniffles from your nose candy.
You sell your body with the room watching.
Get off the stage, then we meet in the lobby.
I’m headed out the building-through the side entrance.
Before I leave, you yell for my attention.
The story’s familiar, but I stay to listen.
The eyes are blank and filled with your addiction.
It robs your life, like it has robbed your children.
You say you wrecked and don’t have transportation.
Here come requests made in your baby voices-all made with hopes of freely given Franklins. Hands that are outstretched expect a downpour of freely given finances.
You want to score, and you’re feeling desperate.
I ask questions and find your story changes.
When I say no, you flip in an instant, and then your temper flashes.
You’ve attacked before and left my heart wounded.
He left you beaten and covered up with bruises.
I gave you a lot only to be fined and used up.
Thought it would be different, but it’s just ironic. It’s all confusing. You sever the connections. You love the abuser and leave me rejected. #art #artbasel #scopemiamibeach
