10 MISTAKES: Is your skin dry & flaky? Or oily & flaky? Or very sensitive and reactive? If YES read on to the end. Or save this post for later. .
Moisturizer mistakes you are making:
1- Applying it on dry skin
2- Using too much
3- Layering it all wrong
4- Using the wrong kind of moisturizer for your skin type
5- Not moisturizing oily skin
6- Rubbing it in too hard
7- Expecting too much from it- thinking it will fix pigmentation/acne etc.
8- Applying it on after removing your makeup with just a wipe!! (HORROR story)
9- Thinking heavier moisturizers will solve dry skin issues.
10- Applying makeup too soon after .
THE SCIENCE you need to know:
Think of the skin as an onion. Water from the inner layers travels up and evaporates. When you put moisturizer it prevents water loss. But doesn't put lost hydration back into the skin. And so your skin remains dehydrated. Even though you moisturize your skin is still dry & flaky or flaky & oily (if you have oily skin) .
The CORRECT way to moisturize:
2- Add Water: Spritz to dampen your face. A mist is really a game changer.
3- Store that water: Put in a humectant. I use Hyaluronic acid as it is a sponge like molecule that stores water and slowly releases it like a true badass.
4- Seal. Now use your moisturizer- cream/gel/suspension/lotion
5- For DRY skin only. Use a drop or two of oil as the last step.
