Yesterday we took our first ever trip to #ikea. We decided we needed some plants for the house, and we may have gone a little overboard... but when the giant plants are $20 and the big ceramic planters are $15 it’s hard to stop!

My green thumb is non- existent, but I’m going to do my best to keep these guys alive. So now I’m off to find some sunny spots for them. Any tips or tricks when it comes to watering house plants?

CONFESSION | I killed a plant this week. I moved him into my office ‘cause I thought maybe he wasn’t getting enough light. Turns out the spot I moved him to was quite the sun trap and being in the new location I kinda forgot about him and by then time I got to him, he just couldn’t be saved. Ugh, the guilt. It’s hot out there, learn from my mistake, water your plants guys. Although not TOO much as it turns out that can kinda kill them too (may also be talking from experience there). This is not said plant, he went to green wheelie bin heaven. This is a perfectly healthy (often watered) plant snapped at @totemroad this week #oopsididitagain . .

I went away for NYE/NYD and the only Air BnB I could get/liked was shared accommodation with the owner. 11/10 property with a KILLER sunset, super friendly, had pets 🐶🐶🐱 aaaand a lot of indoor plants - because she's a gardener! The plants I’ve had over the years haven’t lasted long. 😬 Recently I decided having plants around again would be a great thing. Save my black thumb, good idea - right? 🥴 So off to the plant store I went where I bought 12. I’ve had fun figuring out where they go and what pots to put them in. ☝🏻I seriously am struggling. About a year ago I read an article saying there are some houseplants that help you sleep better and filter the air better, etc.. since I am always on the hunt for a natural way to do things, I thought I’d give it a try. I talk to them, cheer them on, they have sunlight, and I STILL manage to kill them. Aloe plants in everyone’s room... died. Snake plant in the living room... died. Some other plant that is good, is low maintenance and I don’t know the name of it... died. What. The. Ever-loving. Hell. I’m on ANOTHER mission though cause you don’t give up right!? Well. I almost killed one last week. Turns out it needs more water. It’s barely hanging on. The other three seem to be doing ok. Fingers crossed. My 3 kids are thriving but the plants!? Dying. #plantkiller #butnotonpurpose

As a noob, I think cactus are the solution for my lack of green thumb. But, I know for sure my cats are going to be all around my plants and prefer non spiky varieties of cacti, just to be on the safe side 🌵

My Astrophytum cactus, also known as Bishop's Hat, seems like the best of both worlds. It's a handsome guy, I leave it in a window sill to bath on the sunlight and water every two month if it looks thirsty. And it doesn't have spines. I think it would need a repotting on a terracota pot soon, but for now I'm enjoying the low maintenance life 😎

This the beginning of my sad attempt to grow some herbs. As with most things I try, it doesn't seem to be succeeding. I have this one vision of who I want to be, a type of person that is connected to the earth and self sustainable and all that jazz, yet I never seem to be able to do things properly to succeed. I run out of energy and motivation, things start to go wrong and I don't see how they can be fixed so quit. My gardens become overgrown weed patches with a few hardy vegetables that thrive with no interaction. I know these herbs need more water but my goodness it hurts my hand to squeeze the trigger on the spray bottle! Excuses, excuses and that is why I always stay stuck at square one. Maybe one day I will overcome the low energy and try to succeed, but for now I will do what I can and hope life will sort out the rest on its own, like these few little sprouting seeds.

This Crassula ovata, also known as Jade plant is been growing a lot lately 🌱

This guy was a gift from my Mom. She has a super big Jade in her backyard, just pulled this from the mother plant and gave it to me, like "This is a hard to kill one" 😂

In fact, Jades are low maintenance. Let it dry, but not completely. Give it a spot on a bright place, but no direct sunlight. Send pics of it to your Mom and make her proud 😊

The downside to loving plants is that, if you do it right, they'll grow. Like, OUTGROW your space and you'll have to rearrange the WHOLE house (it feels) to find the right spot for it. THEN,realize that you need to "up pot" the other plants too THEN,find spots for THOSE plants!! Then,you ran out of pots and soil,so you need to go to the garden center AND you know what happens at those places ... that's right! MORE plants!! And THEN,you gotta find space for those plants too!!
