Yuck yuck yuck yuck!
Is there a rule where when you reach a certain number of followers on here you start getting asked to promote slimming products?!
Over the last week I’ve got a surprising amount of follows and collaboration offers from diet companies (yes, even a ‘skinny tea’ one!)
These are companies that profit off of making us feel like we’re not good enough as we are.
Like many women I grew up comparing myself to women in the media and it’s taken me a lifetime to start unlearning that habit.
Whilst I’m not plus size, my weight fluctuates and I’m usually best described as ‘sturdy’. I have plenty of features that these diet companies want me to worry about... the smoothness of my thighs, the flatness of my belly, the jiggle of my bum. As if they’re things we should be ashamed of...
Those dimpled thighs have taken me up mountains. That belly has been filled with Michelin star meals. That bum has jiggled the night away on dancefloors to the sound of my best friends’ laughter.
Josie took this photo of me yesterday as I was working up the courage to take the plunge.
The first thing I noticed was my cellulite. Not the excitement of the moment or the amazing pool (or the fact I look a bit like a woodland elf that’s been surprised!)
I’ve had dimply thighs for all my adult life; when I’ve been super fit and lean as well as when I’ve put on extra weight.
It’s something I’ve always been self conscious of but recently I’ve discovered #bodypositivity
online and I’m finally seeing women who are not only not hiding their cellulite but actually celebrating it.
There’s even a new term: cellu-lit 🔥
So here are my wobbly bits, unashamed and unapologetic.
The diet and beauty companies that prey on our insecurities can sod off, I love my squishy bits and I think that you should too.
(Second photo is from one of the slimming product accounts that has started following me recently)
