Manly Ferry ‘Dee Why’ (along with her sister ‘Curl Curl’) were the first Manly Ferries to have an enclosed upper deck. At the time they were considered to be the fastest Manly Ferries, said to clock near 20 knots.
The first photo was taken at Circular Quay. The second photo is at the Balmain workshops with Colgate-Palmolive and the foot of The Avenue on the left.

A memorial show is being held at The Bridge Hotel on Tuesday 15th January from 6pm to honour the life of our dear friend John Power. John holds a special place in our hearts here at the Bridge. John played bass and was vocalist in legendary local act The Hippos who helped kick start the Bridge over 30 years ago.
To celebrate his life, many of his friends/musical colleagues will perform at this memorial show: THE HIPPOS, THE FOREDAY RIDERS, DAVE SKINNER, GAYLE KENNEDY, SHIRLEY SMITH, ALI PENNEY, RICK GROSSMAN, ROB HIRST, HARRY BRUS, DOM TURNER & LUCY DESOTO. All welcome $25 at the door or at MOSHTIX.

Farewelled my 101 year old Grandmother Phyllis today. A Sydney legend and Balmain to the core, she was the most Australian person I ever met. A Sydneysider through and through and made of a character sadly long gone for the most part from Australian society, she was an amazingly inspirational person and much loved by our large family.
She loved Sydney and is pictured here when she was 1937 Queen of Sydney Harbour

Bulk carrier ‘Santa Cruz’ discharging timber in Snails Bay in 1964. The Caltex Oil storage depot at Ballast Point (in the background) is now a beautiful parkland. Note the house type barge alongside the ship was one of the MSB’s amenity barges, which the wharf workers on the ship used for meal rooms and amenities. The workers were transported to and from the ships at the start and finish of their shifts.
