I see the term "Fat Burning Workout" all over the place. But do they exist?

The answer is an underwhelming "Yes and No". Let me explain why.
-
Your body is always looking to glucose to fuel itself. Glucose is made from either breaking carbs down or from protein/fats through a process called gluconeogenesis.
-
The body is an extremely intelligent device so it does what it thinks is best at the time. There is truth that is you are working at around 55-70% of your max Heart rate, then your body will look more to fat to fuel you than at times when you do more intense exercise. This is due to the fact that aerobic respiration is much more efficient than anaerobic respiration.

Your body wants to be efficient whilst oxygen is available to it. When you up the intensity of the exercise and oxygen is no longer available(think lifting heavy weights or HIIT training), then your body will use the anaerobic pathway which is less efficient.

Unfortunately, over the course of the day the percentages of energy source used stay constant on a day to day basis, even if you shove aerobic work into your workout daily. So even though you may burn more fat during your workout, you will burn less throughout the day. Think about it- where does the excess food go if you don't use it for energy? -
A caloric deficit is key. So don't punish yourself and do a workout you enjoy!

I had two options when the alarm rang at 5 am.
1. Stay in a warm bed and sleep another 75 mins
2. Get up, go into a cold garage and workout.

I really, really wanted option 1. So bad I talked to myself, but I have goals and the good side won out.

So I went out drank my pre workout, pick me up, wake up juice...fired up the streaming service and got my 40 mins of a workout done before I would have woke up if I stayed.

Quick post on hinge positioning.
If you are finding your shoulders hunched and/or back rounded while in a hinge position then try placing a dowel down the centre of your back. You should remain in contact with the dowel at the lower back, upper back between your shoulder blades and back of the head, at all times!
If you then correct this and your knees start to dip forwards and into a squat (pic 2), then practice the hinge with a dowel, with your toes elevated! This will push your knees back and move the shins to vertical. Practice this position unweighted until you feel your back is staying straight. Then move to a deadlift with elevated toes until you’re keeping you knees back and shins vertical. Finally take away the elevated toes to find a perfect hinge position, ready for deadlifts, swings and a whole manor of great movements!!!! ***

Let’s talk glutes!
.
Big huge muscle group that helps us with a lot of everyday movements. Hip stability, stepping up and down stairs, walking, squatting, getting up and down from a chair.
.
Exercises we use the glutes in are squats, lunges, hip bridge (as shown), step ups, leg press..
.
There are deep glute muscles that help with internal/external rotation and those are the ones that can sometimes be weak and or tight. Piriformis is one of them.
.
Having weak glutes or tights glutes can lead to lower back pain, knee pain, tight hamstrings, pronation, misaligned knees (when walking/lunging).
.
Doing a glute bridge exercise is something that can help keep the glutes strong and work a lot of the glute muscles. It can be done by anyone and it can be made harder by adding weight with a kettlebell or a bar.
.
In picture 1, both feet are raised on kettlebells and the hips pushes up and the glutes squeeze at the back.
Try and get the hips as high as possible and don’t use the hands.
.
Second pic, one leg is raised. Keep the leg long and out. Don’t raise it in the air above the hip as you loose the weight and resistance it creates when the leg is long.
.
Doing this exercise every week will help keep those glutes firing and keep your posterior chain strong!
.
Add these into your workout every week. X20 reps with 2 feet down and X10 reps of the singles. X3-4 sets!

New polaroids for the season!! ⛔️WARNING, long post! 😂 Everyone always see’s the glamorous side to being a model but let me tell you, maintaining a healthy body & mind to fit into industry requirements can often be really tricky. It takes a hard shell and tons of confidence.

I have been working super hard to achieve these weight goals. I have been training 5-6 times a week, balanced with a healthy eating lifestyle. (Which I have come to love, I’ll choose the Poke Bowl over a pizza any day now.) I’ve slowly started to gain an understanding on how to eat. I used to believe that cutting out carbs was the way to go, but I’ve learnt that in order to actually lose weight, boost metabolism and too manage my energy levels, I need them in small proportions, plus my protein and veg.
I also learnt, believe it or not, that a cheat day helps to boost metabolism and of course in anything, a balance is important. (I do love my sugar fix.) There are also tons of ways to get a sugar fix without actually eating the bad stuff.
I owe it to @your_future.co and @gareth.corbett for helping me to achieve my goals, with the help of my @switchplaygroundcpt family. I am loving being apart of the Switch family.

Bodyweight Circuits are always going to be the most sustainable method of exercise as they can be done anywhere, do not require equipment, lower risk of injury and of course without need of costly gym memberships. Master the movements then you can increase the intensity as and when you feel able. I see so many people complicating their routines without justification either by poor instruction, advice or education.. keep it simple, keep it effective and it will keep sustainable.

For a better position, sit yourself the opposite way on a preacher curl bench so it supports the middle of your back. This way you get your back in neutral alignment and it stops you from hyperextending. It also helps you complete full range of motion without hitting the bench behind your head. Don’t go too deep into the movement. It adds too much stress to your shoulders. And keep those elbows in and facing forward. Happy training! ✌🏻 -

These are definitely one of my favourite back exercises and with sets of 8 - 12 it still allows me the chance to lift some heavy weight during prep. Especially when ur trying to lose weight, circuit training is a great way to keep heart rate up+get extra work on small muscles in between big sets. I try to do this circuit every other workout, if not every workout. Just pick up a moderate-light weight and go to work. Today I’m doing this between my bench warm up sets after overhead press💪. Getting extra work like this, and bodyweight exercises daily are easy to do and allow long term general fitness🙂. Can be done with dumbbells, plates; anything really works!
Circuit: repeat 3 rounds, rest 1-2 min. Between circuits. This is what I personally did tonight, but 10-20 reps per exercise is ideal

Front squats 10 reps
Shoulder press 10 reps
Romanian deadlift 12 reps
Calf raises 20 reps
Rows 10 reps
Shrugs 12 reps
Alt. Hammer+bicep burl each 5 reps
Front+shoulder raises each 8 reps
This is super easy to do right in the AM! Get up, start w/ couple sets of bodyweight squats, push ups and burpees/jumping jacks and then move onto this!

I can’t believe what some people pay top dollar for. -

As an Orangetheory 🍊(cardio and strength based HIIT workout) coach, I get this question a lot. ⁣

The answer is…it depends on your 🎯 goal ⁣

👍🏿Whichever side you start with, strength or cardio, should align with what you’re ultimately trying to achieve.⁣

🏃🏿‍♀️Weight loss – Cardio first⁣
🏋🏿‍♂️Muscle gain – Strength first⁣

🏃🏿‍♀️If you’re looking to lose weight, cardio (especially HIIT cardio) is the fastest way to burn calories during your workout. If you go hard enough, you’ll even achieve Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC), which means your metabolism will be kickstarted and continue to burn calories for you after your sweat sesh ⁣

👍🏿But, keep in mind, once you’ve lost weight with the cardio first approach, you’ll eventually want to switch things up to focus more on strength so you can start sculpting your physique 🍑⁣

🏋🏿‍♂️ Building lean mass will ALSO increase your metabolic rate and burn more calories for you while you’re chilling on the 🛋 , so it’s not something you want to skimp on⁣

🏋🏿‍♂️In fact, if your main goal is to build lean muscle, you need to hit the weights first while you’re fresh and have the most energy⁣

🏋🏿‍♂️If you’re looking for changes in your body composition (i.e. lower body fat percentage) you also need to hit the weights ⁣
