The sport of canoe polo in South Africa is seeing excellent growth due to the influx of teens and university students (and their parents!), through the work of dedicated adults that are making it happen with training days, friendly matches and tournaments.
Canoe polo combines kayaking and ball-handling skills in a contact team game. Many kayak clubs around the country have one or two canoe polo sessions a week, usually in the evenings. Beginners are always welcome. It is a great way to get fit and to use and improve your paddling skills in an environment that is friendly, supportive and encouraging. Clubs have equipment for beginners to use.
This Saturday, 23 February 2019, the Likkewaan Canoe Club in Parys is hosting a canoe polo tournament. We'll be there with our demo kayaks for you to try. Bring a change of dry clothes and a picnic basket, and learn about the sports of canoe polo and kayaking.
