- takes the time to determine the source of your symptoms

Modern footwear usually have raised heels which, over time, cause our heel cords to become chronically shortened. Woman’s high heels are an extreme example of this problem. 2. The modern lifestyle is prone to be a sedentary one. If joints are inactive for long periods of time, they tighten up. 3. For a joint to stay flexible, one needs to move it through it’s entire range of motion on a regular basis. The deep squat is a perfect position to help maintain the ankles full range. Unfortunately, the modern western environment is equipped with chairs wherever we go. This ‘convenience’ has made the squat, as a resting position, redundant. So, unlike our Far Eastern brothers and sisters, who still rest and socialise in the squatting position, we sit with tight ankles and poor squatting techniques.

The band external rotation exercise may be the most well known "rehab exercise" ever. It is basically synonymous with rotator cuff rehab. But we've come a long way in what we know and how we address the cuff, and the band rotations are just the tip of the iceberg.
.
The tendons of the rotator cuff often become irritated due to repetitive overload and cause irritation to the front of the shoulder. We know it as a rotator cuff tendinopathy and managing it requires bringing the load down to within the current tolerance of the shoulder.
.
Now, it can take some trial and error to get the load just right, but a good progression to follow is isometric --> eccentric --> dynamic. Isometrics don't have the painful tissue moving so they tend to be the least irritable of all and are a great starting point, especially for the person who has pain moving the arm. Eccentrics are up next because tendons tend to handle eccentric stress a bit easier than concentric, so they are a good tool to help us build back up some range of motion. More dynamic work would come after, where we load the cuff while moving the arm back and forth and is great to use when we have some basic tolerance built back up.

So there are multiple ways to load the cuff beyond just the standard external rotation drills. Modify the load, progress the exercise as needed, and build that cuff back up.

Um estudo controlado, simples cego, randomizado e com follow-up, investigou a diferença entre um tratamento padrão e um tratamento à base de exercícios iniciados já na primeira semana pós-lesão, em 100 indivíduos com lesões grau 1 ou 2, durante 4 semanas.

O grupo “exercícios” apresentou uma melhora funcional significativa na função do tornozelo (de acordo com uma escala funcional para membros inferiores) a curto prazo e uma maior mobilização por descarga de peso dentro da 1ª semana em comparação ao grupo “PRICE”. Outras variáveis, como dor e edema, não apresentaram diferenças significativas. O follow-up também não mostrou diferenças significativas nas recidivas para entorses do tornozelo em ambos os grupos.

O que os estudos nos mostram é que para entorses leves/moderadas, os exercícios que objetivam a melhora do arco de movimento, da força muscular, da propriocepção e do controle neuromuscular, realizados de forma precoce, são a melhor escolha de tratamento. .

ROTATOR CUFF

As I’ve discussed in the past, we cannot isolate single muscles. However, we might be able to preferentially target certain ones like the external rotators of the shoulders by using a band as seen in the video. Yes, the traps, rhomboids, deltoids, and everything in between will be working too.

The first four exercises are ordered from easiest to hardest as you perform isometric external rotation, isotonic external rotation, and isometric external rotation through varying degrees of shoulder flexion. The more you pull the band apart, the more difficult the exercise.

The archer exercise challenges isometric protraction of the front shoulder and isotonic retraction of the back shoulder. I demonstrate several angles at which you can pull the band which will provide slightly different stimuli.

The last exercise is a weightbearing movement which will further challenge the shoulders and trunk. I could have done a better job at keeping my butt down and protracting my shoulders. I’m sorry. I’m human.

When utilizing coupled forces, more muscular activity occurs. We tend to make nearly every exercise In the gym as "pulling moves". .
.
Take benching for example. The weight gets heavy after certain amount of reps and as you struggle, you pull up your lower back off the bench or pull up your neck up , shoulders shrug down to engage the lats since the pecs and serratus muscles are giving out. This then feels like a pulling move, even though it's a pushing move, leading to unwanted muscle recruitment and therefore, increased risk of injury. .
.
What if you just change your thinking during your benching? Once that car is close to your chest, just think of you pressing your mid back into the backrest of the bench as you push the bar off your chest. Notice how much more muscle recruitment you feel from pecs, serratus and triceps. .
.
It's all about Newton's 3rd law of motion: for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Not only I find this change of thinking more effective for muscle growth and connection, but also consider it safer for the athlete. .

What’s up Achievers?! @jasonlpak here and in today’s video I go over exactly how we go about coaching the deadlift to our members. Here are the key components:
🔑 Feet hip width apart
🔑 Bar over laces (not too close too shins and not too close to toes)
🔑 As you descend, don’t just think about bending your knees but also hinging your hips back
🔑 Grip the bar tight
🔑 “Wedge” yourself under the bar and get your armpits directly over the bar
🔑 Push into the floor and stand tall
🔑 Re-trace your steps on the way down. Rinse and repeat!

As far as hip position goes, all we’re looking for is for you to be somewhere in a position where your hips are *below* your shoulders (so not like an RDL) and your hips *above* your knees (so not like a squat). Anywhere between those two extremes is completely fine and dependent on the lifter. My hips tend to be on the lower side, but as you’ll notice they still stay above my knees, which is why it’s still considered a hip hinge and not a squat.

Over the course of a year I had been focusing a lot of my legwork to my hamstrings and glutes. So much so that I neglected my quads. I wouldn’t train them at all. My mind to muscle connection was fully bound to my glutes and hamstrings that everything I did I would always get a glute pump. Well here lately my knees had been hurting and I could feel my quads really weak. I have been doing some rehab work a few days a week and it seems to be working. I have always loved troubleshooting problems that arise within the body and figuring out what the problem is. I had always wanted to get a degree in physical therapy but didn’t have the courage to go to school for it. But I do love doing research on my own time and fixing myself in the process. I just figured that if I want to train late in life that I better learn to be the mechanic of my own body. Narrowing of the arteries in the heart. As plaque builds up in the arteries of a person with heart disease, the inside of the arteries begins to narrow, which lessens or blocks the flow of blood. Plaques can also rupture (break open) and when they do a blood clot can form on the plaque, blocking the flow of blood.
The symptoms vary depending on the type of heart disease.
For many people, chest discomfort or a heart attack is the first sign.

Someone having a heart attack may experience several symptoms, including:
l Chest pain or discomfort that doesn’t go away after a few minutes.
l Pain or discomfort in the jaw, neck, or back.
l Weakness, light-headedness, nausea (feeling sick to your stomach), or
a cold sweat.
l Pain or discomfort in the arms or shoulder.
l Shortness of breath.
If you think that you or someone you know is having a heart attack, get them to a hospital as quickly as possible.

Squat Warm-Up Routine 🍑

Before getting underneath a barbell to squat you need to prime your body to accept the workload and function properly together. This routine allows you to engage each component that you will need to be successful while squatting 🗣

1. Air Squats: Performing 10-20 repetitions of bodyweight squats will allow you to increase your heart rate, oxygen delivery to the activated muscles, and prime the lower extremity to squat 🙌🏼
2. Multi-Direction Glute Activation: This drill you need to place a mini-band below your knees (Forefoot placement for MAX Glute Medius Activation) and maintain a squat position as you step forward, sideways, and backwards. This will allow increased glute firing in a multi-planar position, improve lower extremity stability, and reduction of your knees caving in while squatting 🙌🏼
3. Goblet Squat Prying Stretch: Grab a kettlebell and widen your stance with your toes slightly pointed out. Sit down into a squat position and rock from one leg to the other without allowing your heels to rise. This drill is great to improve your ankle dorsiflexion and hip mobility in the the bottom of the squat position 🙌🏼
4. “Open The Book Stretch”: Get into a side-lying position and bring both of your arms to one side. Once in position, slowly rotate one arm away behind your back without causing excessive trunk rotation. You should feel a good pull in the middle of your back. This drill will help improve your thoracic mobility and increase your ability for your hips and trunk to raise simultaneously when elevating from the bottom squat position 🙌🏼 .

Loop band around your foot, roll backwards carefully so you’re led on your back. Start with your bottom leg bent, straighten the leg to be raised and straighten your bottom leg, make sure you’re not rolling your pelvis! Hold the band and relax your arms so you’re not creating tension in your neck
