For today let's start with types. When you think of lavender you probably think of English Lavender. That's the most common type but each type has multiple varieties within the type. The plants vary greatly in smell, color, taste, texture and size!
English Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia): . It's also the most commonly used in cooking and baking, and has a sweet, soft fragrance.
Lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia): Is a hybrid between English and spike lavender. They usually have long stems, lighter color and larger flowers than English varieties.
Spanish Lavender (Lavandula stoechas): This plant looks way different than the lavender you're probably used to. Shorter flowers and many different colors!
French Lavender (Lavandula dentata): Usually grown as an ornamental and does great indoors and in containers!
Fernleaf Lavender (Lavandula multifida): A small shrub usually grown as an annual with blue/purple flowers.
