In many cases, the spouse, parent, child or friend who takes care of a loved one with cancer would devote all of their time and energy to that person. .

They have to juggle dealing with the cancer, work life, perhaps taking care of other family members - that in the end, they don’t prioritize any time for themselves. And when they do, they feel guilty. .

Caregivers need to also take care of themselves. If you are a caregiver or have someone who looks after you, these are good advice you can share with them ❤️

1. Get plenty of rest, eat healthy meals and exercise.

For the most part, hiking for beginners - be it cancer survivors or non-cancer patients, means hitting a local trail on a weekend afternoon to enjoy a couple hours of scenic cardio, fresh air and maybe even solitude ⛰
.

But that does not necessarily mean we should take this seemingly simple outdoor activity lightly. We must at least prepare our mind and our body before a hike. .

Here’s how we can do that:
.

1. Physical training - If you’re going to go for a hike, equip your body by walking or jogging at least a couple days before. Using the incline mode on a treadmill is a great way to sort of mimic your hiking experience before the actual day 🏃🏻‍♀️ .

2. Have something to eat - Remember to go hiking with a full stomach. Have a proper meal before you go on a hike 🍏🥗
.

3. Mental preparation - You have to develop an almost Zen-like attitude 🧘🏻‍♀️ Rain or shine, hiking with a heavy pack can be mentally challenging. So having a positive attitude and sense of humor and being really committed to your goal are key 😉 .

Knee pain is one of the most common orthopedic conditions for which people seek medical treatment. .

Without proper treatment, it can be problematic for years. However, there are exercises proven by research that you can do at home to reduce pain and improve your ability to participate in the activities you love! ❤️

1. Straight leg raises - Lie down, bend one knee and place your foot flat on the floor. Keeping the other leg straight, raise it to the height of the opposite knee. Repeat 10-15 times for three sets. .

2. Hamstring curls - Lie flat on your stomach. Slowly bring your heels as close to your butt as you can, and hold that position. Do three sets of 15. .

3. Wall squats - Stand with your back against a wall, your feet about shoulder-width apart. Slowly bend your knees, and keep your back and pelvis against the wall. .

4. Side leg raises - Lie on one side with your legs stacked. Bend the bottom leg for support. Straighten the top leg and raise it to 45 degrees. Hold for 5 seconds, lower and relax briefly, then repeat 10-15 times. .

Cumin rice is an earthy and slightly peppery dish that can be used as the base for many meals. It is also very easy to make! 😉 .

What you need: .

1 tbsp butter
2 tsp cumin seeds
1.5 cups long grain jasmine rice
1 clove garlic
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups of water
.

How to make: .

1. Add the butter and cumin seeds to a medium sauce pot. Sauté the cumin seeds in the butter over medium-low heat for 1-2 minutes, or just until the butter starts to turn golden brown. .

2. Add the uncooked rice to the pot and continue to stir and cook for 2-3 minutes more to toast the rice.
.

3. Mince the garlic and add it to the pot along with the salt and water, and stir to combine. Place a lid on the pot, turn the heat up to high, and let the liquid come up to a boil.
.

4. Once it reaches a boil, turn the heat down to low and let it simmer (with lid) for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, turn off the heat and let it sit undisturbed for 10 more minutes before lifting the lid.
.

5. After resting for 10 minutes, remove the lid, fluff with a fork, and serve.
